Abstract: A virtual game, authored in Articulate Storyline, challenging players to design healthcare simulation scenarios. Gamification supports learning through play, enabling players to experience simulation scenario design, and grasp the basics of what decisions a simulation instructor must overcome in developing effective, and engaging simulation education. During the game players make decisions related to the learning environment, available tools, and how to supply learners with feedback. Advice is provided to players based on the decisions they make, their context, and previous decisions on their designed scenario. This advice is provided in many forms, written feedback is provided from the perspective of students as well as simulation experts; in addition, a numerical score at the conclusion of the game is also awarded to players. There are two complete levels within this game, one based on catheter insertion (i.e., skills training), and another on team-based crisis management. Also contained within this package is coding for leaderboards, which, if hosted upon a Moodle learning management system should allow for implementation of ‘scores’ being pulled from the gradebook and posted for players to see. Contents contained within include: a blank scoring template, two game levels in raw text format, storyline files associated with the two raw text game levels, two SCORM packages (one per level) allowing for direct upload into a learning management system, a zipped code package for the leaderboard, and a link to the game live on our own website (account creation required to access).
