This guide introduces GNL and provides tips on how faculty can work with students and faculty abroad to collaborate on assignments, acquire global perspectives on a given discipline, and develop intercultural competence skills. By the end of the module, you will be able to:

Understand the foundational principles of GNL, and its pedagogy
Apply the relationship-centered partnership focus to building a GNL project or course,
Apply principles of GNL project design (outcomes, activities, use of technology and assessment) into your course, and
Begin to develop a GNL project or course

This guide is part of a Globally Networked Learning (GNL) training e-module which was developed by the Globally Networked Learning (GNL) Team at York University. The materials incorporated in this module are drawn primarily from the GNL Globally Networked Learning Course/Module/Activity Development: Instructor Guide developed by the GNL Team at York licensed under CC BY NC SA 4.0. Select case studies and examples based on the pedagogical approaches, course materials, and collaborative work of York faculty members and their international partners.

This e-module will be piloted for internal use at York from mid-March to mid-July 2026. Feedback collected during this pilot phase will inform subsequent revisions to the module design and learning activities.
