First-year students face a variety of challenges in making the transition to university life and there can be implications for academic performance, mental health, and physical health. The Psychology of Success is an online resource for first-year students that’s focused on the skills associated with success at university and beyond. A series of multimedia modules provide students with an opportunity to learn and reflect on definitions of success from a variety of perspectives and complete active learning exercises focused on relevant skills acquisition and transition issues. The core components are focused on topics such as study skills, health and wellness, goal setting, confidence, public speaking, career exploration, and more. The course includes a framework for being introduced to members of the community and their views on reaching our potential. It also integrates a series of student videos discussing the various module topics, why they matter, and how the central ideas have been applied. All assignments include detailed instructions and marking rubrics, simplifying the process for instructors. We believe the active learning approach creates the potential for deep, transformative learning. Overall, the Psychology of Success provides an opportunity for students to reflect on different perspectives of success, consider and practice a variety of critical skills, and work towards a smoother transition to university life.en_US
