Abstract: The Educators in Focus series features more than 50 instructional videos made by Ontario educators for Ontario educators as a way to inform their professional development, discover new strategies and implement innovative pedagogical practices. In this video, Ontario educator Kit Luce introduces mathematics teachers to a high impact instructional practice called deliberate practice. Although frequently mistaken for worksheets and drills, it actually targets higher order thinking skills development. Students need to practice collaborating, reflecting and identifying the concepts that they find challenging. Several examples are provided to support the implementation of deliberate practice in your mathematics lessons. The Educators in Focus series features more than 50 instructional videos made by Ontario educators for Ontario educators as a way to inform their professional development, discover new strategies and implement innovative pedagogical practices.
