Abstract: Reinvigorated interest in space exploration highlights the significance of using a transdisciplinary approach to gain a holistic view of scientific problems, make new discoveries, and develop viable solutions; however, traditional science courses are siloed and offer students limited integration of concepts that transcend disciplines (e.g. formation of the Solar System).
This project offers a transdisciplinary course focusing on physical processes at various scales by integrating concepts commonly taught in discipline-specific courses. The course is shared in a digital format to assist educators in colleges, universities, and Indigenous institutes in building a tailored course based on student needs. Sample lectures and labs, including learning outcomes, technology-based learning activities, and forms of assessment, are provided based on concepts from Earth Sciences and Physics; however, concepts from other disciplines (e.g. Biology or History) and Indigenous ways of knowing (e.g. Traditional Knowledge) can be integrated with course content.
The course is provided in a digital format suitable for hybrid, in-person or remote learning. Materials are ‘Ready to use’ as whole lectures/labs/quizzes, partial resources, or modified activities.
The course is organized in a series of modules, including Module 1. Matter in Motion in the Solar System--Module 2. Matter in Motion within a Celestial Body--Module 3. Matter in Motion on the Surface of Earth.
The course is provided as a zipped content package in IMS Common cartridge format exported from the Canvas LMS, which can be imported to any Learning Management System.
