dc.description.abstract“Increasing Accessibility in Healthcare Service Delivery for Persons with Vision Loss” is a series of modules and supplementary resources created for an audience of healthcare students, workers, and clinicians. However, these modules and resources could be generalized to non-healthcare settings.en_US
Our larger vision is that healthcare services will become more accessible for clients and patients who live with blindness, deafblindness, low vision and other types of vision loss. While many people face many challenges finding and accessing healthcare, people with vision loss often face additional accessibility barriers. To improve healthcare delivery for people with vision loss, healthcare students, workers, and clinicians need to better understand both accessibility guidelines and the lived experiences of blind, deafblind, and partially sighted people. The goal of our ongoing project is to provide learning materials that will help healthcare students, workers, and clinicians better understand these experiences and incorporate strategies and practices for improved accessibility into their practice.en_US
This project was made possible by a large team of contributors. Co-design was used to include perspectives and guidance from individuals who could use these resources and individuals who could benefit from accessibility improvements in healthcare service delivery. We included community members and learners at various levels in the project, including advisory/planning, video case scenario creation, content creation and review, and user testing and feedback.en_US
The following resources are currently included in this offering: • Four 30 minute interactive learning modules that include a primary video case, reflective questions, and information on relevant concepts (weblink; SCORM files available to educators using an LMS upon request to eCampus) • Four companion guides that cover all non-video content in the modules (PDF, Word)en_US
While these resources are licensed under a “no derivatives” open license, you have permission to use the following items from the modules to support student or healthcare provider learning: multiple choice questions may be used on exams or tests; reflective questions (either those that require an answer or those that are for personal reflection) may be incorporated into an assignment you provide to students. You may also create your own questions based on the content of the modules.en_US
This set of resources will continue to evolve and be added to over time. This will include additional modules, test bank questions, possible assignments, additional resource documents, and resources to support the implementation of strategies.en_US
Please check back in the future for additional resources. To provide any feedback on the resources and/or interest in future topics, please share your thoughts with us via survey: https://queensu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_20sapRCtYqKX93gen_US
