dc.description.abstract This course was developed to address how Indigenous People and their matters are portrayed within the media. This introductory course examines the roots of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the development of the colonial narrative that perpetuates misinformation, racism, and stereotypes that impacts Indigenous communities. It offers a critical discussion of Indigenous People and the relationship between media, settlers, and the path towards reconciliation. This course provides a foundation for informed and critical discussion on the Indigenous media and settler media. Students will gain an understanding of the historical Nation-to-Nation relationship that existed prior to colonization. The course studies the Indigenous world views and will explore First Nations perception within an historical and contemporary context and will discuss the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. en_US
