dc.description.abstract This workshop focuses on the Tri-Agency Research Data Management (RDM) policy and how the requirement to deposit research data into repositories affects Colleges. Researchers are encouraged to think about how they will manage their research data at each stage of a project. The research landscape is changing in that journal publications are no longer the only outputs that funders expect at the end of a project. Increasingly, funders and publishers are asking researchers to publish the data sets that support the conclusions of their publications. The Tri-Agency Council's RDM policy for 2021 calls for tri-agency-funded research to be deposited in a repository where appropriate. Researchers produce publishable data by cleaning the data, describing it, saving it in a shareable format and depositing an archived dataset in a stable data repository. This module outlines some of the considerations to be taken into account when preparing a data repository. Institutions can download this module and integrate it into their Learning Management System (LMS) so that faculty and staff can familiarize themselves with the research data repository. In this module, users will learn to describe why data repositories are important, how to list the characteristics of a data repository, how to recognize when a data repository is not appropriate, and how to identify data repository options. This module was created collaboratively by the Heads of Applied Research and the RDM Community of Practice at Ontario colleges with funding generously provided by Compute Ontario. This resource also contains a recording of a workshop that focuses on the same topics under Supplementary. en_US
