A Stroke of Genius is an interprofessional health care case that follows the journey of Holly Black, a patient with stroke. Throughout the case, Holly encounters multiple health care professionals, including neurologists, neurology residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, speech language pathologists, dieticians, social workers, pharmacists, radiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a stroke coordinator and more. The video collection includes a full cut of Holly's journey as well as long cuts of each of her interactions with different Health Care Professionals. The purpose of the media is to demonstrate the complexities of health care and the importance of interprofessional competence. The videos can be used in any health professions education. This case is part of the Health Education Media Library, which is a community-sourced open access repository of medical, dental and health education media assets including images, videos and audio clips. The collection contains high quality assets curated by health care professionals and educators that will be useful for educators to use in the creation of their own teaching materials. One of the primary goals of the collection is to ensure that the media is representative of a diverse population of both patients and health care providers (emphasizing representation across different ethnicities, genders, ages, and body types) and inclusive of stigmatized health care topics. The collection will continue to grow as we receive new submissions and work with additional collaborators.
This case also includes a Facilitation Guide and an interactive H5P activity.
