Abstract:
Hospital Unit Administration is an introductory OER for students in medical and health office administration programs covering the key knowledge and skills of hospital unit coordinators. Topics covered include the role of hospital unit coordinators, including the topics of hospital organization, staffing and scheduling, risk management, hospital communication processes, patient care records, registration, surgical procedures, transfer & discharge. Each chapter relates to a corresponding unit in ADMN 2270: Hospital Unit Administration 1, a third-semester course at Conestoga College in the health office administration program. The resource was specifically designed to help students with short readings targeted to specific terms or situations they may encounter in the hospital setting. In addition to readings, there are practice and review activities, videos, and glossary terms and definitions. The activities were designed to help reinforce learning and allow learners to check their understanding of key concepts. These activities may be repeated as many times as students wish.
