Abstract:
Health professional programs such as nursing, and medicine have historically had difficulty providing opportunities for assessment such as gynecological examinations to their students. Recently, a limited availability of preceptors and scarce clinical resources as well as a move to increased virtual care has contributed to the difficulty finding these opportunities for learning. This learning tool aims to provide the foundational knowledge and recommended techniques associated with gynecological assessment to better prepare students. This resource includes four gynecology assessment online learning modules with a combination of interactive learning, expert demonstrations and reflective learning that will help students to master the skill and knowledge required. This book also includes the important topic of assessing individuals that have historically been underrepresented in the teaching and learning environment. For example, in our modules we discuss an approach to care for those who are differently abled, LGBTQ2I+ and people who have experienced trauma. The final module provides an overview of commonly seen pathological findings on gynecological exam. This chapter helps learners to identify these common findings and also review potential treatment modalities.
