Abstract:
This course will provide students with the opportunity to explore and understand the process of gaining a post- secondary education while developing learning skills and techniques and personal management strategies needed to be successful in a post-secondary educational environment and in the workplace.
2) Course Objectives
Understand the role of postsecondary education and its value in the workplace.
Recognize and apply theories related to success including change, motivation, values and critical thinking skills.
Acknowledge roles and responsibilities in the learning partnership in the postsecondary environment.
Realize that postsecondary education builds a foundation for lifelong learning. Create and maintain a portfolio for the purpose of furthering education as well as career.
Identify individual learning styles and strategies to achieve success working within those individual learning style, while respecting and relating to others with differing styles.
Identify personality traits, communication styles and strategies which influence individual success and relationships with others.
Understand the communication process, and develop self-management and problem solving skills.
Improve academic skills including reading, test taking, note taking, research, time management and critical thinking.
