dc.description.abstract The Preceptor Education Program, 3rd Edition, is an online interprofessional program that consists of eight 30-minute interactive learning modules. The modules include downloadable resources, learning exercises and video case scenario. Learning is self-directed with modules completed in any order. A certificate of completion is offered. Module 1 Orientation and Preparation The goal of the placement is focused on the learning needs and preparation of the student for professional practice. A model of Professional Practice Placements is used to reveal how and by whom a placement experience is created and unfolds. Learners will review the responsibilities for each ‘who’ of a placement experience. Module 2 Anti-Oppressive Practices The antioppressive practice module will increase preceptors’ and students’ understanding of the importance of anti-oppressive practices. Learners will critically examine their positionality and the influence it has on their relationships with others and will develop goals to continue in their journey of understanding. Module 3 Learning Objectives This module will outline the steps required to write a well-developed learning objective while considering the strategies, supports, resources and proof required for successful achievement. Within this module, experiential opportunities support learners in writing their own clinical placement learning objectives. Module 4 Clinical Reasoning Clinical reasoning is a critical component of health professional practice. Students benefit from deliberate guidance from teachers and preceptors across their education program. This module examines clinical reasoning and applies the steps through case studies. Module 5 Reflective Practice This interactive learning module will begin you on the journey of incorporating reflection into your professional practice and becoming a reflective practitioner. Engaging in various forms of reflection can enhance and deepen learning within preceptorships. Module 6 Feedback and Evaluation Learners will explore both the process of feedback and a format for outcome evaluations. Peer coaching is briefly explained. Key attributes of supportive learning environments will be reviewed. Understanding the student who is not meeting course expectations is included. Module 7 Successfully Navigating Conflicts This interactive learning module will help preceptors and students understand conflicts within preceptor-student relationships and develop strategies to recognize, prevent and manage conflicts. As well, this module will discuss lateral violence such as bullying and verbal abuse and how to manage these using assertive communication skills. Module 8 The Virtual Placement Professional practice placements that take place in an online/virtual setting is unique. A framework is introduced to integrate an understanding of technology, communication, collaboration, and professionalism and how they can be applied to prepare, practice and evaluate in these settings. en_US
