Abstract: Have you ever wanted to incorporate the science of learning into your courses? Do you wish there were more customizable interactive tools in your LMS? Academic Success Strategies in a Virtual Environment, part of Virtual Learning Strategy (VLS) 2.0, aligns principles rooted in the science of learning with newly developed customizable interactive learning tools that can be easily added to your LMS course content for student practice: • Spaced practice - An editable study schedule table • Interleaving - Improved multiple-choice; and multi-select questions • Concrete examples - Short answers with feedback questions • Elaboration - Flip cards and multi-select questions • Dual coding - Flip cards with images • Retrieval practice - Flip cards; improved multiple choice; and reorder activity questions
Each principle contains information and resources you can use within your online learning environment: • background information on the principle • student-friendly videos • customizable interactive learning tools you can embed in your online course • recommended external learning tools Use these tools in your courses to promote durable student learning.
To use the template, download the import package specific to your LMS and import the template. For import instructions, please see the Quick Start Guide for your LMS. To use the template, locate the “Faculty-How-To Guide” module within the imported resource. This module contains pages that will help you to use the LMS template and interactive components.
