Title: Domains of AI-Awareness for Education
Authors: Dilkes, Dani
Keywords: Generative AI
Higher education
Issue Date: 15-Aug-2025
Publisher: Centre for Teaching and Learning, Western University
Abstract: This eBook provides an alternative to AI Literacy Frameworks by focusing on building AI-Awareness instead of AI competencies. It invites reflection on 7 discrete domains of awareness that everyone in higher education should build: Knowledge, Skill, Ethics, Values, Pedagogy, Affect, and Interconnectedness.
There is a chapter dedicated to each domain, which provides an overview of the domain, key information, including its relevance to higher education, and reflective tools for readers to assess their own level of awareness and applicability to their own teaching and learning practices.
This resource is unique as it does not assume that everyone must become an AI-user; instead, it honours the wide variety of values and perspectives that different readers may have.
